Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is a 40 day marked by repentance, fasting, reflection and ultimately celebration. The 40 day period represents Christ’s time of temptation in the wilderness where he fasted and Satan tempted him.

Jesus remained in the wilderness for 40 days … reflecting …discerning … struggling … wrestling to be someone else, to belong to someone else, to not let God’s will be done. In our sanctuary is the stained glass picture of Jesus wrestling in the Garden of Gethsemane, one more temptation, facing death on the cross, in which Jesus is tempted.
